Tribute to the late Jean Victor Allard

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today paid tribute to the outstanding military career of the late Jean Victor Allard:

"I was saddened to learn of the death of Jean Victor Allard, who I have known personally for many years. He was once the most senior francophone in the Canadian military, and as such, he served as a role model to many others. As the Chief of Defence Staff who oversaw the unification of the forces, he demonstrated strong leadership during a very important period.

Aline and I extend our condolences to the family and friends of the late Jean Victor Allard."
