Acting President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency announced September 24, 1996 Ottawa, Ontario Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of J. David Nicholson, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs, as Acting President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Mr. Nicholson will continue to serve, on a concurrent basis, as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) has the mandate of supporting and promoting opportunity for the economic development of Atlantic Canada. It is actively involved in the development of national economic policies to ensure that the interests of the region are taken into full consideration. The Honourable John Manley, Minister of Industry, is responsible to Parliament for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Minister Manley is supported in this responsibility by the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Secretary of State (Veterans Affairs) and (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency).
