Prime Minister Announces Re-appointment of CBC Chair

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was pleased to announce today the re-appointment of Guylaine Saucier as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Ms. Saucier has been serving as Chair of the Board since April 1, 1995. This re-appointment is effective until March 31, 2001.

Guylaine Saucier, C.M., F.C.A.

Guylaine Saucier was born in Noranda, Quebec, in 1946. She is a highly-respected business woman in Montreal.

A Chartered accountant by profession, Guylaine Saucier was President of the Groupe Gérard Saucier Ltée, a major forest products company, from 1975 to 1989. She has been a board member with several major Canadian companies, including Northern Telecom, Petro Canada, and the Bank of Montreal. She was the first woman to be appointed President of the Quebec Chamber of Commerce. She has been very active in community affairs as a board member of a number of organizations in Montreal, including the University of Montreal, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and l'Hôtel Dieu de Montréal.

When she was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1989, her citation noted that "she has displayed exceptional civic-mindedness and has made a significant contribution to the business world."
