Statement by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today issued this statement on the news of a plane crash at Mirabel Airport:

"I was shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible accident this morning at Mirabel. It is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life, that it can be taken so suddenly.

It is difficult to imagine the grief that the families and loved ones of the crew and passengers are feeling today. But they should know that the thoughts and prayers of Canadians from coast to coast will be upholding them in the difficult days to come."
