Statement by the Prime Minister July 23, 1999 Ottawa, Ontario Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his deep sadness on the news of the death of His Majesty King Hassan II of Morocco: "King Hassan II was a man of vision and a force for stability in his beloved country. He will also be remembered for his valuable contributions to the efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. King Hassan's death saddens us all. He will be deeply missed. On behalf of all Canadians, Aline and I offer our condolences to the Royal Family and the Moroccan people."
