Statement by the Prime Minister January 2, 2000 Ottawa, Ontario Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sadness on the news of the sudden death of Toronto broadcaster Colin Vaughan: "Colin Vaughan was a true Toronto institution. He was a gifted journalist, with a deep interest in and understanding of public affairs. His unique insights and engaging personality made him the first and last word on all things political - federal, provincial or municipal - for his thousands of viewers. He will be greatly missed. Aline joins me in extending our sincerest condolences to the family of Colin Vaughan, his colleagues and his many, many devoted friends."
