STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ABOUT BRIGADIER-GENERAL JOHN RICHARDSON October 11, 2002 Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued this statement today on the news that Brigadier-General John Richardson, Member of Parliament for Perth--Middlesex had resigned his seat for personal reasons: "Since he was first elected in 1993, John has been a valued member of our Caucus and a dedicated representative of the people of Perth--Middlesex. His thoughtful approach, good humour and gentle manner also earned him the respect of all sides of the House. I regret that he is leaving Caucus. But everyone who has ever been an MP understands that it is a uniquely demanding calling. And I am sure that I can speak for all Members when I say that we respect both his decision and his privacy. Aline joins me in wishing John and his family the very best ." -30- PMO Press Office: (613) 957-5555 |
