Canada
is a federal state where powers are distributed between the federal government
and the governments of the provinces and territories. The federal government
oversees matters that concern Canada as a whole, such as national defence
and criminal law. Provinces and territories are responsible for matters—such
as education, hospitals and property—that affect the regions and
their people.
The framework within which the Nation operates includes elections, government
finances, public administration, criminal and civil justice, correctional
services and policing.
