Household:
Refers to a person or a group of persons who occupy the same dwelling. The
household may consist of a family group (census family) with or without
other non-family persons; of two or more families sharing a dwelling; of
a group of unrelated persons; or of one person living alone. A private
household is a household occupying a private dwelling.
Family household: A household that contains at least one census
family. A census family consists of a couple who are married or living
common-law (with or without never-married sons or daughters living with
them), or a lone parent living with at least one never-married son or
daughter. A family household may also contain other non-family persons.
Non-family household: A household where one person lives alone,
or a household that is composed of a group of two or more people who
do not constitute a census family.
Census metropolitan area (CMA): a very large urban area (known
as the urban core) together with adjacent urban and rural areas that have
a high degree of social and economic integration with the urban core.
A CMA has an urban core population of at least 100,000, based on the previous
census.
