Household size, by provinces and territories (2001 Census)

Definitions

Household: Refers to a person or a group of persons (other than foreign residents) who occupy the same dwelling. The household may consist of a family group (census family) with or without other non-family persons; of two or more families sharing a dwelling; of a group of unrelated persons; or of one person living alone. A private household is a household occupying a private dwelling.

Notes

1. The numbers in this table are for private households and not for collective ones. A private household occupies a private dwelling—that is, a separate set of living quarters with a private entrance either from outside or from a hallway or other common area inside the building.
