Canada's Nuclear History

Launch Historical Timeline (Flash version)

Contribute to Our History

Canada’s nuclear history is a compelling story of industrial and medical research, uranium and radium mining, and nuclear power plant development. It’s the story of the people involved in these nuclear activities and in developing the safe use of nuclear substances. It’s also the story of many “firsts” for Canada in the world.

Interactive Historical Timeline

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has created an online interactive module where you can learn about Canada’s nuclear history.

You can step through it chronologically – start from the creation of the solar system billions of years ago to scientists’ first capture of antimatter in 2010, or pick a subject area such as medicine or safety. Learn more through our photos and videos, and link to other sites for more information.
