External Reviews

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada periodically requests quality assurance reviews from external organizations.

  • In 2009, the Auditor General requested a second international peer review. A team led by the Australian National Audit Office found that our quality management system was suitably designed and operating effectively for the performance audit and special examination practices. For the financial audit practice, the team found that our system was suitably designed and generally operating effectively but noted that risk assessment and documentation needed attention.

  • In 2004, we engaged an independent facilitator, Deloitte, to help us complete a Modern Comptrollership Capacity Assessment.
  • In 2003, in a first for a national audit office, we requested an international peer review of our performance audit practice. A team led by the National Audit Office of the United Kingdom found that the practice reflected recognized professional standards, and was operating effectively to produce independent, objective, and supportable information that can be relied on to examine the government’s performance.
  • In 1999, the Office asked an external audit firm to review our quality management system for financial audits. It was the first major auditing organization in Canada to request such an audit. The reviewers concluded that the system was suitably designed and operated effectively.
