Illustrations are read from right to left. All illustrations show the frontal aspect of a bovine mandible under thirty months.

The first illustration represents a full set of eight temporary teeth on the mandible of a young calf.

The second illustration represents a full set of eight temporary teeth, on the mandible of a bovine of about fifteen months of age.

The third illustration represents the first set of permanent incisors erupting from the mandible of a bovine.

The fourth illustration represents the first set of permanent incisors fully erupted from the mandible of a bovine.

The fifth and final illustration represents the mandible of a bovine. The three right temporary incisors and the last two left temporary incisors are shown. On the left side of the mandible, we also see the erupting third permanent incisor, top of tooth not above gum line, meaning the animal is less than 30 months of age.
