The pie chart in Figure 6 illustrates the distribution of surveillance sample submissions by reason for submission. Of the submissions, 40.8% were dead bird samples, and those under full surveillance made up 16.4%. And 1.2% of the birds submitted were under investigation, and 35.8% of samples were healthy before movement (i.e. pre-movement). Samples from birds that were healthy prior to quarantine (i.e. pre-quarantine release) totalled 4.9% of the submissions. And validation samples, tested by the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease and the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture and Lands (BCMAL) laboratory, made up 0.9%.
