Serious / Hold for Investigation defect found. Is defect eligible for Hold for Investigation? If No, defect is deemed serious. If yes, company has option to request Hold for Investigation. If company does not apply, defect is serious. If company does apply, they submit a plan for review. The company then samples the lot, and evaluates the defects against the Metal Can Defects Manual standards. If the serious defects are not eligible for Hold for Investigation, the defect is deemed serious. If the serious defects are eligible for Hold for Investigation, the range of defect measurements are determined, the defect frequency is determined, and the appropriate tests are conducted. The company evaluates the assessment results, and submits an assessment report to the Agency. The Agency provides a decision to the company, where the Hold for Investigation defect is deemed either serious or minor.
