This is a flow chart that first asks if the product being imported is a PNT. If not, an import permit may still be required, if there are commodity-specific phytosanitary requirements. If it is a PNT, the next question is if the PNT is already authorized for unconfined release in Canada. If not, an import permit is always required. An import permit issued for a PNT will allow import into a contained facility. The imported PNT must be maintained in the contained facility until authorization for environmental release is granted by the CFIA.
