MacDonald
Municipality of MacDonald
Designated as one of the fastest growing areas in Manitoba, the RM of MacDonald has developed this site to encourage even more
growth. This is a somewhat complex site, with two main streams, each accessed through a link on the Home Page. The first, "Site
Locations and Business Opportunities" leads to maps of the RM and pages for the RM's communities. The second, "Community Profiles
and Business Directory", leads to a second set of pages for the communities, an interactive map, a page on "Doing Business", and a
"Council Message" page. The "Map" page includes detailed contact information for the RM Council and various municipal services and
offices. "Doing Business" contains information about, and Web links for, several organizations and government initiatives of
interest to prospective businesses. A third stream, "Municipal Affairs and Public Announcements" was inactive at the time of this
review.

Town of Melita
The Town of Melita (population 1,152) is located in the extreme southwest corner of Manitoba. Melita is "aggressively promoting
the community as an alternative location for industry in Manitoba", and the Web site reflects that -- from the Mayor's Message to
the Real Estate Directory. There is virtually no government information on this site, other than the phone number for the Municipal
Office, found in the Business Directory. The "Directory" page contains a number of lists: business, community health services,
service clubs, utilities, education, fire and ambulance, etc. The "Chamber of Commerce" page has a number of links to sites with
help for small businesses, such as the Manitoba Employment Standards Guide and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. The
"Library" page has a link to the Melita Public Library site. There are colour photos throughout.

very brief descriptions of their respective locations, facilities, businesses, etc. The Canupawakpa Dakota Nation's page had a
thumbnail sketch of their school, band office, and Annual Pow Wow. The only government information was the RM of Albert's office
phone number, and a sentence about the RM of Pipestone council's makeup. The Links page included links to several library sites and

Victoria Beach
Victoria Beach
Located on the south shore of Lake Winnipeg, Victoria Beach has long been a favourite summer resort for Manitobans. The Web site
for the Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach has been developed by students of St. Mary's Academy. At the time of this review, it
was a small site of five pages. Contact information for the RM Office is given on the Home Page. A list of the Reeve, Councillors,
and RM staff, with phone numbers is included on the "Businesses and Other Info" page. The "Businesses" page also includes a list of
local businesses (with telephone numbers), the executive members of the Victoria Beach Club, and a link to the La Vérendrye Trail
site. The other three pages are a "History", "Beach Events", and a small photo gallery.

Wawanesa
Wawanesa
"Wawanesa, surrounded by cliffs and located in the Souris River Valley, is one of the most scenic towns in Manitoba." Their Web
site is designed to arouse the interest of potential businesses and residents. For example, the "Benefits" page lists 10 benefits of
moving to Wawanesa. Various facilities, such as the recreation centre and the River itself, are described on the "Recreation" page.
The "Facilities" page provides details about health facilities, seniors' housing, churches, etc. "About Us" discusses Wawanesa's
location in relation to other parts of North America, as well as various transportation routes. Other pages include "Businesses",
"Geology", "History", and "Links". There is virtually no government information on this site. The reviewer found the site difficult
to view, due to the light font and the dominant wallpaper.

Whitemouth
Whitemouth
The Town of Whitemouth boasts the first woman in Western Canada, Dr. Charlotte Ross, who settled there in 1881. Located on the
western edge of Whiteshell Provincial Park, the RM "is rich with recreational opportunities." This Web site for the Town and the RM
is a commercial one, maintained by Granite Internet Services. It is strictly promotional in nature and contains no government
information. Recreational and tourist activities are described on the "Recreation" and "Tourism" pages, respectively. The former is
under construction. The latter sketches the activities available on the Whitemouth River, lists hotels and campgrounds, and includes
directions to the RM. The "Services" page is a free listing for local businesses, with Web links. There is also a "History" page
with a thumbnail history from 1870's to the 1940's.

Winnipeg
City of Winnipeg
Winnipeg is the capital of Manitoba and the geographical centre of North America. The City's Web site is multidimensional in
scope. It is an informational site for Winnipeggers, a promotional site to encourage businesses to locate in Winnipeg, a site for
tourists, and a semi-gateway to other sites with information about Winnipeg. There is also a page of "Employment Opportunities". The
site is both fully indexed and searchable. Information for citizens includes everything from a page on "Lane Closures", to full text
informational brochures. Current municipal news is included in "What's New" and "Press Releases". City Council and the Mayor's
office are fully described, with email links to the Mayor and each Councillor. Ward boundaries, taxes and assessment, both political
and administrative organization, and current budget information are all available. The pages "City Government", "City Services",
"Civic Departments", and "Who to Call" all offer information about, and contact information for, the various civic departments.
There are numerous links to the Web sites of departments and services, throughout. Links to a wide variety of sites with information
about Winnipeg can be found on the "Links" page. To promote tourism, the site offers a "Handy Tourist Information" page with
information about Canadian currency, sales taxes, drinking and driving, crossing the U.S./Canadian border, etc. The "Sights and
Sounds" pages include descriptions of various attractions, with email and Web links, including a link to Tourism Winnipeg. The
"Industry, Commerce & Education" page is designed to promote Winnipeg as a place to do business. Information for potential
businesses can also be found on the "Information and Statistics" page, which has links to the Web sites for various utilities,
population estimates, accessing City records, etc. The site also has an online version of the City's cheeky promotional CD, One
Extreme City, with something for everyone.
