Arcola


Town of Arcola
The town of Arcola, located in the southwest corner of Saskatchewan, is home to some well-preserved heritage buildings. Their Web site, created by the Cornerstone Regional Economic Development Authority, provides a brief overview of the town. Government information is limited to the contact information on the Home Page, and a list of town services on the "Quick Profile" page. "Quick Profile" also contains listings related to real estate, health and educational facilities, etc. Other pages include "About Arcola", a "Brief History", an "Events" page, and a "Recreation" page. The "Business" directory contains listings for the nearby town of Stoughton, with no apparent listings for Arcola itself. There is also a very clear "Town Map", which shows the location of local businesses, facilities, and the town hall.

Argyle


R. M. of Argyle, #1
The Rural Municipality of Argyle, set in the southeast corner of the province, encompasses the towns of Carievale and Gainsborough. The Cornerstone Regional Economic Development Authority has developed a Web site that provides a brief overview. Government information is given on two pages. The Home Page has contact information, including an email link, and the "Quick Profile" page lists the Reeve, Councillors, Administrator, assessment and taxes, and infrastructure. This page also has brief information on population, location, business and industry, utilities, etc. There is also a "History" page with a point-form essay on the creation of the R.M. and a list of the R.M. Council's 'Events by the Year'. The only other page is the "R.M. Map", which, at the time of this review, was very difficult to read.

Assiniboia


Assiniboia
The Town of Assiniboia "sprang up literally overnight" and has since grown to become "the largest trading area in south central Saskatchewan". Their Web site includes information for residents and visitors alike. Government information is found on two pages: the "Local Government" page, accessed through the "Community Profile" link, and the section on "Government", accessed through the "Business" page. The former gives names and contact information for the municipal government and some civic organizations. The latter provides addresses and telephone numbers for both municipal and provincial services. The "Business" page leads to listings by category. "Community Profile" includes "Statistics", "Education", and "Health". The "Tourism" page includes a series of suggested day trips. A Community Calendar is included on the Home Page. Other pages include "Our History", "Pictures", "Maps", and "Recreation".

Big River


Big River Network
Set on the shores of Cowan Lake, Big River is the gateway to northern Saskatchewan. This Web site, developed by the Big River Internet Association includes information about both the town and the Rural Municipality of Big River. Government information is accessed through the "Town Directory" and consists of a telephone number for the town and a page for the RM. The latter names the reeve and councillors and has full contact information. The "Town Directory" also lists emergency phone numbers as well as a wide variety of businesses and organizations. A general page for the town briefly describes its location and surroundings, its ecosystem, and its economics. In addition, there are pages about the area's history, recreational opportunities, artistic community, and events. The home page has a link to the Saskatchewan Association of Community Networks.

Town of Biggar
"New York is big, but this is Biggar!" This site showcases the reasons for such civic pride, in particular Sandra Schmirler Olympic Gold Park, developed in honour of Biggar's most famous citizen. Town pride is prominently displayed on the page, "History and Famous Biggar" [sic], which has short sections on things and people for which the town is famous. Several pages describe the town's amenities, including "Recreation", "Tourism & Organizations", "Community Groups", "Industry & Transportation", and "Protective, Medical, and Education". Government information is included on two pages. The "Local Government" page lists Mayor, Aldermen, and civic employees and shows the town shield. Full contact information is found on the Home Page. Links to local sites are found throughout the site, as well as on the "Links" page.

Birch Hills
The Town of Birch Hills has created a Web site to draw newcomers. Government information is given on two pages. "Local Government and Community Services" includes a point-form description of government structure for both the Town and the RM of Birch Hills. "Contact Us" has contact information (including email links) for the Town, the RM, and the town's Recreation Office. The rest of the site provides an overview of the Town. Local services and activities are listed or described on several pages, including "Education", "Health Care", and "Recreation". The "Business and Real Estate" page describes available residential and commercial real estate; mentions the business tax incentive; and lists local businesses (with some email and Web links). A thumbnail sketch of the town's history and a "Special Events" page round out the site.

Bredenbury
The Town of Bredenbury has put together an energetic Web site, complete with animation and music, to promote the town as a good place to live. General information about the town is found on the home page, with information on available business and residential properties, recreational facilities, etc., and on the "Click Here for More Information" page, which describes such things as location, topography, employers, and agriculture. There are two business directories. "Bredenbury Businesses" is accessed by the View Community Businesses button, while the Surrounding Area Businesses button leads to the "Yorkton and Area City-Town Directory". Government information consists of contact information found on the home page, in the "Bredenbury Businesses" directory, and in the "Yorkton and Area" directory. A photo album, "Bredenbury at Christmas" completes the site.

Broadview, Saskatchewan
Broadview is "a progressive community with historical roots" located in southeastern Saskatchewan. Their Web site contains information of interest to potential new residents and businesses. Government information is found on two pages. "Council and Staff" lists the names of the mayor, councillors, and civic employees and has a general council meeting schedule. The "Community Facts" page gives contact information (including email links) for both the town office and those responsible for municipal planning. Of interest to potential businesses, the "Economic Development" page offers information on the Economic Development Committee's small business loan, the Mainline Regional Economic Development Authority, and the East Central Development Corporation. There are several pages of interest to new residents, including "Native Heritage", "Community Profile", "Property Taxes", "Housing and Accommodation", etc.

R.M. of Brock No. 64
The RM of Brock, together with the Cornerstone Regional Economic Development Association, has put together a Web site to profile the Municipality Contact information for the RM Office is located on the Home Page; there is no email link. Other government information is included on the "Quick Profile" page and includes a list of the Reeve, Councillors, Administrator, and Public Works Staff. Available utilities and services, the average municipal tax rate, information on infrastructure, industries, population, location, etc., are also contained on this page. The "History" page contains a history of the RM council, rather than the area. The "RM Map" shows the overall area, but no detail is legible. At the time of this review, the site had been very recently updated.

Browning
The Rural Municipality (R.M.) of Browning was created in the early part of the 20th century. Their Web site, created by the Cornerstone Regional Economic Development Authority, provides a glimpse of the services offered by the R.M. Government information is found on two of the four pages. Contact information, including an e-mail link, is located on the home page. The "Quick Profile" page lists the Reeve, Councillors, Administrator, Assistant Administrator, and R.M. Staff. It also includes a list of emergency services (no phone numbers), recreational and health facilities, etc., as well as the R.M.'s assessment base, taxes, and infrastructure. The third page consists of a short "History" of the R.M. Council. The "R.M. Map" appears to have been scanned in and is indistinct.

Bruno and District Webpage
Bruno, the Town of Champions, has designed a Web site for the purpose of introducing themselves to potential residents and businesses. To that end, they have included pages that give an overview of the town's "History", "Places of Worship", "Education" facilities, and "Recreation" programs. There is also a "Bruno Business Directory". For those interested in starting a business, the "Economic Development Programs" section includes program and contact information for the two Economic Development Corporations in the area. Government information is contained in the "Community" section, with pages for the "Administration of Bruno" and the "RM of Bayne". Both pages list the members of their respective Councils. The section also includes pages describing "Public Services" and "Public Utilities". Contact information for the town is found on the home page.

The Town of Churchbridge is graced with numerous murals. Their Web site offers a look at the murals and provides a look at the town as a whole. Government information is located on the "Town Administration" page which gives the names of the Town Council and contact information (including email links) for the Town Office, the RM of Churchbridge, and the Churchbridge Community Development office. Business information is included on the "Business/Economy" page and the "Business Index". The former has a listing of Property for Sale and descriptions of the Tax Incentive Policy and the Residential Building Incentive Policy. The latter includes email links. The Town and the Rural Municipality of Colonsay have developed a Web site intended primarily for current residents. This is a very hierarchical site, with many of the pages accessible only from the pages immediately 'above' them in the hierarchy. Government information is scattered throughout the site, beginning with the home page which has contact information for the town and email links to both offices. The "Town Administration" lists the mayor, council, and administrator and leads to several other pages, including "Tax Structure" and "Building Permits". The "R.M. #342 Administration" page includes contact information and leads to more pages as well. The "Colonsay Info" page leads to several directories of businesses and services, and to the Town's "Newsletter" and a "Photo Tour". The "Links" page completes this site.

Denzil, Saskatchewan
The Village of Denzil, located due west of Saskatoon, began shortly after the CPR laid the track from Moose Jaw to Macklin. The Denzil Community Access Program has put together a Web site that includes information about the present day village, as well as an extensive "History". Government information includes contact information for the Town Office, including an e-mail link, given on the Home Page. "Neighbouring Communities" describes the nearby towns of Primate, Macklin, Luseland, Senlac, Unity, and Major, with some Web links. The "Businesses" directory entries consist of contact information and an annotation, or, a link to a Web site, but not both. Other pages include: an interactive Town photo; "Recreation" which includes annual events, a list of clubs and organizations, and descriptions of recreational facilities; and "Points of Interest".

Eastend


Eastend
Once the east end of patrols out of Fort Walsh, "located in the middle of nowhere and miles from the nearest city", Eastend is now home to a Fossil Research Station and a new T-Rex Centre. This Web site, developed by the Eastend Tourism Authority, is built almost exclusively around these tourist draws. There is no government information. The page on "Eastend" itself has a brief overview of the town, including its history, recreational facilities, and events. There is also a link to the Regina Archaeology Field School. The "Tourism" page is also archaeological in nature, with sections describing quarry tours, family digs, etc. The "Fossil Research Station" and "T-Rex Centre" pages complete the picture. Links to local businesses are available on both the "Links" page and "Eastend Online".

"Englefeld is an agricultural based community located in central Saskatchewan." The town's Web site, created by the Englefeld Community Access Program, emphasizes that Englefeld is a good place to relocate. There is no government information, other than the mayor's greeting on the home page. The only contact information for the town is an email link for the public library, also on the home page. The site consists of two kinds of pages. Several pages provide an historical background, while others offer annotated directories. The former pages include "History", "Religion" (a history of the local churches), and "Education" (a history of the local schools). The directories include the "Businesses" page, which has a few Web links, and "Organizations". The site is rounded out with a description of recreational, health, and other "Surrounding Facilities".

Located in the extreme southeast corner of the province, the Rural Municipality of Enniskillen is an area of oil and agriculture. Their Web site, developed by the Cornerstone Regional Economic Development Authority, offers a quick overview of the RM. Government information consists of a list of the Reeve, Councillors and Administrator found on the "Quick Profile" page, and contact information for the RM Office given on the home page. The "Quick Profile" page also has very brief information about tax rates, infrastructure, emergency services, population, location, etc. The "History" page contains a fairly extensive history of the RM and its communities, including inhabitants, economic and agricultural development, and landforms. At the time of this review, the only other page was the "R.M. Map".

Estevan Community Access Project
Rich in natural resources, Estevan is rightfully called Energy City. The town's energetic, multi-lingual Web site is designed to serve several audiences, from business and professional people to citizens and tourists. Government information is found on several pages. Contact information, including an email link, is given on the main "Community Profile" page. Other pages in this section include the "City's Organizational Chart", the "Economic Development Board" page, several pages for "Public Service Utilities", and some full text City by-laws. Information for businesses includes "Building Permits", "Property and Business Taxes", various statistics, and a page of contact information for organizations and government departments. Pages of general interest include a "Local History" page with links to the Southeast Saskatchewan Cemetery Records, an ongoing archival project for the Estevan Mercury, and several online books.

The Town of Gravelbourg is a small town with a strong bilingual heritage. Their Web site is divided into three sections, reflecting the three audiences for which it is designed. The first section, Tourist Information, includes pages for "History", "Attractions", and "Coming Events". The Local Businesses and Services section include a "Business Directory", "Tax Incentives", and "Local Business Opportunities" (with email links). Government information is included in the Community Profile section, on two separate pages. "Government Offices" lists the addresses and telephone numbers of both the Town's and the RM's Offices. "Local Government and Administration" consists of four short paragraphs on the town's government, law enforcement, justice, and fire protection. Other pages describe various services and amenities, including schools, health facilities, transportation, housing, etc. At the time of this review, several of the Web links were dead ends.

Built on land that was once a buffer zone between the Assiniboine Cree and the Blackfoot, Gull Lake is a quiet community west of Swift Current. This Web site provides a description of the village and its services and amenities. The only government information is an email link to the Town Office, located on the "Housing" page. "General Information" contains short paragraphs about the town's location, population, and businesses. The interactive "Map" links to pages for individual businesses and services. Situated northeast of Saskatoon, the Town of Hafford is home to a number of mysterious crooked trees. Their Web site, developed by the Hafford Community Access Project, includes information not only about these trees, but also about the Town's services and facilities. Government information consists of the phone numbers for the Hafford Town Office and the RM of Redberry in the "Businesses and Services" directory. The "Recreation" page describes activities and facilities and gives a phone number for the Hafford Recreation Office. Contact information, including email links, is available in most sections. A "City Central" page facilitates service requests. There is also an extensive FAQ section, accessible from links throughout the site. The site is organized into five main sections. The first section, "Welcome to Regina", is an introduction to the City. The second section, "Programs and Services" is quite extensive, with eleven subsections covering everything from emergency preparedness to taxation/assessment. Each subsection contains information on what services are offered, by whom, how to contact the pertinent department, hours, location, etc. They also include very useful how-to pages, such as coping with winter storms or applying for a dog licence. Full text bylaws are also available in this section. The third section, "Doing Business" includes subsections on tenders and acquisitions, business permits and licences, home businesses, and the local film industry. "Parks and Recreation", the fourth section, includes an extensive subsection on various recreational programs, several pages on sports and recreational facilities, and a pathway/bikeway map. The final section, "City Hall", has a wealth of information for Regina's citizens. The ward map shows the boundaries of each ward and links to the pages for the mayor and councillors, with phone numbers and email links. Most of the town's Web site is aimed at visitors and new residents. Government information is found on two pages. The "Information" page lists the names of the mayor, councillors, and administrator, and full contact information, including an email link. The "Services" page contains information about dog licenses, water rates, and garbage pickup. The rest of the site affords an introduction to the town. In addition to the government section, the "Information" page also has brief descriptions of the town's History, Churches, Schools, etc., while the "Services" page lists local businesses and services, with some Web links. Other pages include "Recreation" and a photo gallery called "Around Town".

Whitewood is a very busy community located midway between Brandon, MB, and Regina. Their Web site is dedicated to the proposition that Whitewood is a great place to live. Government information is limited to contact information for the Town Office on the Home Page, and phone numbers for Whitewood and some RM's on the "Businesses" page. The latter page also lists the names of various local businesses and community services, with some phone numbers. The "Quick Information" page contains a point-form presentation of the many reasons to move to Whitewood. The "Real Estate" page is intended to facilitate that move, with pictures and descriptions of available properties, as well as contact information for local realtors. A "Location" page, "Links", and an "Aerial Shot" are also available. The site is best viewed at 800 x 600 pixels.

The Town of Yorkton, the major centre for its region, has put together a Web site designed to encourage development and growth. Government information is contained primarily on two pages: "Municipal Government" and "Contact Us". The former has complete contact information for the city office and messages from the mayor and the Economic Development Department; the latter is a directory of city employees and departments, with names, phone numbers and email links. General information about Yorkton is found in the "Statistics & Information" section, with pages describing "Culture", "Education", "Emergency Services", "Health" facilities, "History", "Location", available "Media", "Quick Stats", and "Recreation".
