In addition to recording data in
their notebooks with mathematical accuracy, geologists did sketches of the regions they
were studying. This is a sketchbook used by George M. Dawson during geological surveys in
British Columbia in 1877. There are dozens of similar books in the archival documents of
the Geological Survey of Canada.
