F.R. Scott Reading in Bed, by Marian Scott (1906-1993)

Francis Reginald Scott (1899-1985), a committed scholar and political activist, is the subject of this intimate sketch by his wife Marian Dale Scott. Francis Scott, known for his considerable intellectual gifts, had numerous accomplishments. He is perhaps best remembered for his role in the founding of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, the forerunner of the New Democratic Party.

Scott’s other accomplishments included the trying of landmark cases before the Supreme Court of Canada and teaching Constitutional Law at McGill University where he also served as Dean of Law. He also translated the writings of French Canadian poets and won two Governor-General’s Literary Awards for his own published volumes of poetry and essays of non-fiction.
