Marshall McLuhan,
Toronto, Ontario, 1967, by John Reeves
The phrase "The
medium is the message" is a Marshall McLuhan creation. World-renowned for his
thoughts on mass media in reference to communication technology, McLuhan (1911-1980)
influenced a whole generation of academics and social observers.
Always highly
conscious of the meaning of image as cultural message, here he is standing in front of a
mirror, perhaps conveying self-reflection upon the perception of his own identity and
ideas.
