Thérèse (Forget) Casgrain, ca. 1973, by an unknown photographer

A strong believer in the theory of the "common good," a pioneering humanitarian and woman of deep social conscience, Thérèse Casgrain (1896-1981) gained international stature in the world peace movement.

She was instrumental in women’s suffrage endeavours in the province of Quebec, and was President of The League for Women`s Rights. In 1970, she was appointed to the Senate.
