Northrop Frye, 1984, by Harry Palmer

A distinguished scholar whose study of English literature led to international recognition for his critical insights, Northrop Frye (1912-1991) was made Companion of the Order of Canada in 1972.

In his portrait, Harry Palmer has aligned Frye as the human centre of an ordered universe of quasi-classical plinths, rectangles and columns.
