Who is this bold
young woman in slacks and pigtails staring out at the viewer?
Born in Paris,
Ontario, in 1917, Alma Duncan studied art under Ernst Neumann and Goodridge Roberts from
the mid-1930s onwards, and then worked as a commercial artist and illustrator. In 1943,
she joined the Graphics Division of the National Film Board, where she became an animator
and filmmaker.
With Audrey McLaren,
she established the film production company Dunclaren which produced three films in the
1950s.
