Antonine Maillet, 1984, by Harry Palmer

Well known throughout the French-speaking world, author Antonine Maillet is a native of Bouctouche, New Brunswick.

Her literary output is impressive. Her novel Pélagie-la-Charrette won the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 1979. Other literary works include La Sagouine, Les Cordes-de-Bois, Le Huitième Jour and Évangéline Deusse.

Madame Maillet’s words have been translated into many languages, contributing to the worldwide influence of French literature. She is a true ambassador of the Acadian people.

Madame Maillet became Companion of the Order of Canada in 1981 for her work.
