William A.
"Billy" Bishop as a cadet at Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, ca.
1914, by Margaret Henderson (active 1899-1919)
Margaret
Hendersons portrait shows a cadet whose brief and undistinguished career at
Canadas Royal Military College offered little evidence that "Billy" Bishop
(1894-1956) would soon become the top scoring Canadian fighter pilot of the First World
War.
"Billy"
was credited with 72 victories. He was an international hero honoured with many
decorations, notably the coveted Victoria Cross, for his daring exploits and coolness in
combat.
