The Great OutdoorsOnce explorers realized that there was a continent between Europe and Asia, they began to look for ways around and through it. With no roads or highways and no maps to follow, the explorers pushed ahead into the unknown. Finding their way through the dense forest, raging rivers and winter ice must have seemed at times an impossible task. Some tried to get around North America by going north, others explored rivers and bays further south. Settlement began in their newly found land. This part of the Passageways: True Tales of Adventure for Young Explorers website looks at these European explorers who were the first to go further into the heart of the country now known as Canada.
