George Vancouver: A Coast for the English King
Early Life
George Vancouver was born near Norfolk, England. He came from an old and respected family. He entered the Royal Navy in 1771, and in 1772 he joined Captain James Cook's ship HMS Resolution, for Cook's second journey of exploration.
Excellent Training
George Vancouver was a midshipman (officer-in-training) on Captain James Cook's second and third voyages. To have sailed with Cook meant that you were a first-class seaman.
