Dear Mr. Peterson,
On the authority of the Senate of York University, it gives me pleasure to write to invite you to receive the Degree of Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) at the Spring Convocation of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the Bethune and McLaughlin Colleges, to take place on Thursday, June 10, 1982.
My colleagues and I very much hope that you will honour us by accepting this Degree and that you will recognize that, in this way, we are expressing our wish to pay public tribute to the magnificent contribution you have made to the musical and artistic life of this country, to the awareness and enrichment of our musical heritage, and to the great honour you have won for yourself and for Canada in countries abroad.
We all join in expressing anticipation that you may be with us on June 10, to accept this Honorary Degree, most warmly endorsed by us all.
Yours sincerely,
