The Order of Ontario was established in 1986, and is the highest recognition bestowed by the province. It recognizes individuals who have shown excellence and achievement of the highest degree, and whose contributions have enriched the lives of others and helped make a better society. Former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Henry N.R. Jackman, invested Oscar Peterson in the Order on April 28, 1992.
