Louis Cyr
Louis Cyr, strongman, in a show of strength in England, ca. 1892, photographer unknown

Widely recognized as the strongest man in the world at the turn of the last century, Louis Cyr (1863-1912), from St. Cyprien de Napierville in Quebec, challenged and defeated strongmen from North America and Europe in exhibitions and competitions. A natural showman, he amazed large crowds with his feats of strength such as resisting the opposing pull of up to four horses.
