A world-class middle-distance runner, Abby Hoffman (born 1947) participated in four Olympic Games, and won gold medals in the 800-metre run at the Pan Am and the 1963 and 1966 Commonwealth Games. She has also been at the forefront of the battles for the rights of women in sports and the rights of athletes to have their say on athletic decision-making bodies.
