The Canadian
Film Institute, in collaboration with the National Archives of
Canada, is proud to inaugurate the 2000-2001 season with the
presentation of the restored version of the Canadian classic, Tit-Coq,
on Wednesday September 27th at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the
National Archives. This restored version was made possible with
support from Astral Moviepix and the AV Preservation Trust.
The film
written, directed and starring the legendary Gratien Gélinas tells
the bittersweet love story and difficult social integration of a young
soldier born of unknown parents who dreams of marrying his sweetheart
Marie-Ange upon his return from World War II. Tit-Coq, adapted
from the 1948 award winning play, stars Gratien Gélinas (1909-1999),
who is considered one of the founders of modern Canadian theatre and
film. His concern for the "common man" influenced many
playwrights including Marcel Dubé, Yves Thériault, and Michel
Tremblay. Tit-Coq captured the Best Canadian Film Award in
1953. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this classic in an
archivally restored 35 mm print, presented in French with English
sub-titles.
