NEW AND UNPUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE PIERRE TRUDEAU ARE EXHIBITED IN OTTAWA
October 22, 2002 (Ottawa)
"My Trudeau Years," an exhibition of photographs of the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, many of which have never been published, will be launched at a ceremony on Parliament Hill at noon on October 23, 2002. The photographs were taken by Jean-Marc Carisse, the former official photographer to the Prime Minister's Office, who captured the images of Trudeau between 1977
and 2000.
"The images, sometimes touching, sometimes humourous, depict memorable moments and capture the classic gestures, the forceful personality, in sum, the quintessential Pierre Elliott Trudeau," states Carisse.
Family, friends and past colleagues of Mr. Trudeau are expected to attend the event. Also among those attending will be the Ontario Easter Seal Society's 1981 poster ambassador, Tammy, who was photographed with Mr. Trudeau that year and is expected to make a presentation to the Trudeau family.
After the launch on Parliament Hill, the exhibition will be moved to the Library and Archives of Canada,
395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, for public viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, October 25 to
December 15, 2002.
In the words of National Archivist Ian E. Wilson, "I am delighted that we are able to present this exhibition. The Library and Archives of Canada also carefully preserves the personal and political records of the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who ranks among those Canadians who have left an indelible mark on Canada in the 20th century."
This exhibition was made possible thanks to the support of Heenan Blaikie LLP. It is also sponsored by Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, and by friends of Mr. Trudeau. It is presented with the assistance of the Library and Archives of Canada.
