News Release2000-11 The National Library of Canada Now Subscribes to the Declassified Documents Reference SystemOttawa, July 20, 2000 - The Declassified Documents Reference System database provides full-text Internet access to more than 70 000 American government documents produced after the Second World War that had been classified as ultra secret, secret, confidential or restricted access. Among these declassified documents from the presidential libraries, the White House, C.I.A., F.B.I. and other American agencies are telegrams, reports, memoranda, minutes of meetings and correspondence. The database is an important source of information on the United States and its external relations, including Canadian-American relations (the use of nuclear arms on Canadian soil, commerce and immigration).
