Winner of 1996 Agatha Bystram Award Announced

Ottawa, November 1, 1996  --  Today, Maggie Butcher, Manager of the Informatics Professional Services Division of Public Works and Government Services Canada, was named the winner of the 1996 Agatha Bystram Award for Leadership in Information Management.

Ms. Butcher’s winning project was the Online Information Professional Services Marketplace Initiative, a dynamic electronic market place, in which suppliers can post and update the prices and availability of their products 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Susan Dalati of Revenue Canada and Sue Hanley, Steve Clarke and Manuel Melo of Indian Affairs and Northern Development Canada received honourable mentions for their information-managment projects. Susan Feeney of the Australian Bureau of Statistics also received special recognition for her innovative use of technology during an assignment with Statistics Canada.

The Agatha Bystram Award for Leadership in Information Management, established by the Council of Federal Libraries (CFL) in 1995 to honour one of the federal library community’s most respected pioneers in the management of federal information, is intended to encourage continued progress in this field by recognizing other innovators in her name.

The November 1 awards luncheon at the National Library of Canada was hosted by the CFL and sponsored by GEAC, CANEBSCO and SilverPlatter Information Inc.
