“Government on the Net ‘96” Focusses on Quality in Electronic Communications

Ottawa, October 31, 1996  --  The world of information is changing and close to 400 representatives from government and the private sector will participate in the third annual “Government on the Net” conference at the Palais des Congrès de Hull from November 4 to 6 to analyze some of these changes and chart the way for the future.

Organized and sponsored by the National Library of Canada, with additional sponsorship from Government Telecommunications and Informatics Services (GTIS) of Public Works and Government Services Canada, and the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) of the National Research Council, “Government on the Net ‘96” deals with a variety of issues arising from the rapid growth of electronic communications and its effects on information exchange among federal government departments, among different jurisdictions, and between government departments and the public.

Innovative service delivery is the primary focus of plenary and break-out sessions that cover topics ranging from designing user interfaces and developing departmental intranets to explaining the activities of Web masters. Post-conference workshops provide opportunities for in-depth discussion of major issues and an exhibitors’ fair, featuring 15 government departments, highlights products and programs.
