News Release2001-06 National Library of Canada’s Database Enhanced by 450 000 Records from the Bibliothèque nationale du QuébecOttawa, April 9, 2001 -- National Librarian Roch Carrier is pleased to announce that the National Library of Canada has received over 450 000 electronic bibliographic records representing the catalogue of the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec. "We thank the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec for its major contribution to the resource sharing network of 21 000 libraries across Canada," said Roch Carrier. "This means that the information about their collection will be available to libraries - and therefore to Canadians - across the country, and to the world through the National Library of Canada’s AMICUS system." The National Library of Canada builds and maintains a national union catalogue in its AMICUS system. This national source of information contains the records of items held in over 500 Canadian libraries that send this information to the National Library of Canada on a regular basis. The National Library of Canada acquires and makes available to all Canadians the published heritage of Canada. In order to accomplish this objective, the National Library of Canada relies on the collaboration of partners such as the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec.
