News Release2001-21 National Library of Canada Pays Tribute to Women in ScienceOttawa, October 1, 2001 - In honour of Women's History Month, the National Library of Canada is pleased to announce that 16 new biographies have been added to the Library's Celebrating Women's Achievements Web site. To complement the biographies, published materials by and about Canadian women in the field of science are on display in the second-floor lobby of the National Library, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, until November 15, 2001. This year's theme, "An Ongoing Learning Experience: Canadian Women in Science," pays tribute to these women who faced enormous challenges, in both their professional and personal lives, as they endeavoured to enter the world of science. Despite these challenges, they made significant contributions in fields as diverse as medicine, architecture, engineering, physics, geology, and space exploration. "The National Library of Canada is proud to celebrate these 16 women, as well as all women who have worked and are presently working in the field of science," said National Librarian Roch Carrier. "Today's young women will surely be inspired by their dedication and perseverance." To find out more about these women, visit the Web site at: www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/women/index-e.html or the display located on the second floor of the Library, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa. - 30 - For more information, contact: Reference and Information Services Media Contact: |
