10th Anniversary of Governor General’s Literary Award Winners Reading

Ottawa, November 13, 2001  --  The National Library of Canada is proud to celebrate the
10th anniversary of its evening of readings by the winners of the Governor General’s Literary Awards. This year’s 14 winners will be invited to the Library to read from their works on Thursday,
November 15, 2001.

"For the past 10 years the National Library has had the pleasure of hosting this prestigious literary event, "says National Librarian Roch Carrier. "We invite the public to join us to celebrate the accomplishments of Canada’s best writers, illustrators, translators and their publishers."

The Reading, presented by The Gale Group and in cooperation with the Canada Council for the Arts, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the National Library. The readings, in both English and French, will be followed by an autographing session.

To make this event accessible to the readers of the country and of the world, those interested will be able to listen to the authors as they read from their award-winning works by accessing the Library’s Web site at www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/webcast/index-e.html.

The readings by the Governor General’s Literary Award winners are the highlight of the Library’s public program calendar. Tickets are $15 ($12 for Friends of the National Library) and may be obtained from the Friends at 613-992-8304.

The National Library, whose mandate it is to collect, protect and promote Canada’s published heritage, plays a key role in connecting Canadian writers, readers and publishers.
