The National Library of Canada at the Salon international du livre de Québec

Ottawa, April 24, 2002   --   The National Library of Canada is pleased to announce that it will be taking part in the Salon international du livre de Québec, which is being held at the Centre de congrès de Québec from April 24 to 28, 2002.

In booths 267 and 268 of the Salon du livre, the National Library will display a wide variety of publications and materials that describe its programs and services, and staff will be on hand to answer questions. School groups and visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to view sections of the Library’s official Web site (www.collectionscanada.gc.ca), including AMICUS, the complete digital database of over 1 300 Canadian libraries, the Virtual Gramophone, a multimedia resource of Canadian recorded music produced during the first half of the 20th century, as well as the Kid’s Page, an exciting feature of the National Library of Canada’s Digital Library.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organizers of the Salon international du livre de Québec for their dedication to the promotion of reading," said Dr. Roch Carrier, National Librarian. "We are eager to join the editors, publishers and authors at the Salon in celebrating the joys of reading and writing."

The public will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Carrier at the National Library of Canada booth on Wednesday, April 24, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The National Library of Canada is a federal cultural institution whose main role is to acquire, protect and promote Canada’s published heritage. The Library serves as one of the nation’s foremost centres for research in Canadian studies and as a showcase for Canadian literature and music.
