Book Launches, Films and the Arrogant Worms at the Library and Archives of Canada

October 29, 2002  -  My Trudeau Years: a photo exhibit, a film series from the Canadian Film Institute, a Jazz Festival benefit concert and the Great Canadian Heritage Day History Quiz  --  these are just some of the events highlighted at a fall and winter programming launch and reception hosted by the Library and Archives of Canada on Tuesday, October 29.

"We have a broad range of activities taking place at the Library and Archives of Canada, sometimes as many as three to four at once. The Library and Archives of Canada is very much a public institution which is open and accessible to all Canadians," said Ian Wilson, National Archivist.

Upcoming events feature a number of concerts organized by the Ottawa Folk Festival, one of which brings back the satirical folk group The Arrogant Worms. There will also be book launches and readings, our popular lecture series, various Black History Month events, as well as on-going historical and literary exhibitions.

"We have travelling exhibits on display in different parts of Canada and internationally, such as Oscar Peterson in Washington, D.C., Jean-Paul Lemieux in Beirut and the Where Are the Children: Healing the Legacy of Residential Schools which is currently in Vancouver," added Roch Carrier, National Librarian.

The programming launch was also an occasion to acknowledge and thank the Library and Archives’ many sponsors and partners whose participation plays a significant role in the promotion of Canada’s heritage.

On October 2, Canadian Heritage Minister Sheila Copps announced the creation of the Library and Archives of Canada, bringing together the National Archives of Canada and the National Library of Canada. This is the first time a joint media event has been hosted by these two institutions.

A complete list of public program events is available upon request.
