Duncan's First Nation [1928 Surrender]

This claim relates to the surrenders of Indian reserves 151 and 151B to 151G near Peace River, Alberta, in 1928. (The First Nation’s original submission included IR 151H, but this claim was accepted by Canada in May 1997.) The First Nation argues that the surrenders are null and void because they were taken by Canada in violation of the 1927 Indian Act. A community session was convened in September 1995; oral submissions were held in November 1997. Additional research, required to respond to some of the issues, was completed in February 1999 and the report is in progress.
