Sometimes all that is left of a particular site is a written description because the artifacts themselves were taken away as souvenirs. With time, these objects eventually lost all significance as the memory of where they came from faded away.
Luckily, many of the artifacts from the sites we have inventoried in the Ottawa-Carleton area exist in public Institutions or the collections of responsible private scholars. As a result, we can all share in the history that these objects and places represent. We are all enriched by knowing this past and its people.
To help orient you to the site inventory, to the building blocks of the history of Ottawa-Carleton, we have organized the sites according to the main waterways that define the region; the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers.
