Back to Politics	Joseph Read One of the Island's most respected mariners, Captain Joseph Read ran successfully as a "Laurierite" in the bitterly contested "Khaki Election" of 1917. When he died in office in 1919 the new National Liberal Leader, William Lyon Mackenzie King, filled his Prince County Seat.
