 Thomas Chanter

Thomas Chanter acted as a transatlantic commuter, spending summers on PEI and winters in England. He had a great knowledge of business, and took his uncle's (Thomas Burnard) enterprise to great heights due to his efforts.

He supplied the market for many of the ships built by William Ellis and his crew. He transported lumber and brought back supplies from England for the settlers. Later he would provide aspiring shipbuilders with an opportunity to show their stuff.

He was the island's Justice of the Peace, among other things, and was friends with many of the islands affluent personalities. He played a significant role in the Island shipbuilding industry as a buyer, owner and manager. Most people connected with the shipbuilding trade worked for him or someone connected with him.
