Wawanesa School
Wawanesa School had its origins in Souris City in 1881. Prior to 1891, the school was operated out of the top floor of the hardware store. In 1891 a frame building was established on the east side of Wawanesa and the Wawanesa School District was formed. In 1895 a new building was erected. It was remodelled in 1925.

In 1959, Souris Valley School Division #42 was established by order of the Minister of Education. In 1961, the current high school wing of the collegiate was constructed on the west side of town.

By the 1960’s the old school building on the east side of town and the new school building in the west were incapable of accommodating all of the students in the district. For several years the basement of the United Church was used to hold classes. In 1970, the elementary wing of the present school building was completed. The space problems were resolved and the old school building was sold and torn down.
