People
Despite the farm work, the family still managed to find a some time for other pursuits. Percy probably would not have had it any other way. In the early days before construction of their new house, the Criddle and Vane children would clear off a portion of the nearby river and go skating. Cricket was also a popular sport as it was easy to set up a pitch and most of the neighbours were familiar with the game.

About Us
Soon the new house had a makeshift billiard table constructed from the wood of crates and sporting cushions made from old rubber boots. As time went on, the billiard table increased in size and quality. Billiards provided a distraction for the whole family as well as for visitors.

Aweme sported a nine hole golf course and tennis courts financed by Percy. There were not many golf courses in the area, nor were tennis courts very common. People from the area enjoyed the chance to play both these sports while attending picnics at the Criddle estate. The Criddle boys, Norman and Stuart, were well known for their skill at tennis; this was a great source of pride for Percy.
