Bibliography

Marc Mongeau's distinctive illustrations have appeared in children's books across Canada, the United States and France, as well as in French and English magazines. He began illustrating for his own enjoyment, and the pastime gradually evolved into a career. After studying at College Ahuntsic in Montreal, he embarked on his first assignments as a textbook illustrator. During this period he experimented with various media and techniques in an effort to develop different approaches to his art work. Today, Marc Mongeau continues to explore a variety of drawing styles, colour combinations and perspectives, maintaining that technique is secondary to the message the art conveys. Most of his illustrations are done in watercolour and ink on varnished illustration board, and he does numerous sketches for each assignment. His children's work appears in textbooks, magazines, children's novels, and picture books in French and English. Apart from his work as an illustrator, he designed the giant puppets for the opening procession of Montreal's 350th anniversary and has worked with author Henriette Major as a "concepteur visuel" for her theater productions.
