Born in Montreal, Annouchka Gravel Galouchko has lived with her family in Iran, Egypt, Mexico, and Austria. While these travels awakened her imagination, her parents had already recognized and encouraged her love of art. As a child she experimented with different media and techniques. For example, while in Austria, young Annouchka made and sold puppets. Her training in fine arts at the University of Quebec led to her career as a full-time painter. During her 20s, she cultivated her own style and took part in several exhibitions. Since 1990 she has illustrated two picture books, and written and illustrated a third one, Sho et les dragons d'eau, which received the Governor General's Literary Award for Children's Literature for its illustrations and was a finalist in the French text competition. Her fanciful and rich imagination is reflected in her paintings and her writings.
Annoucka Gravel Galouchko also loves music: she sings and plays the flute.
